Objectives

Based on the competences learned in the previous semester, this course primarily focuses on the types of oral and written text composition. It aims to help students to be able to proficiently use the typical vocabulary of the various text types and the different registers both in writing and speech. Students continue to learn idiomatic expressions typical of a language and to be able to use them in written and oral communication. The four core skills are contin-uously improved.

Academic results

Knowledge
  1. • Students are familiar with the types and conventions of the composition of written texts and the typical vo-cabulary of each text type,
  2. • they know the special features of text types,
  3. • they know how the inner structures of complex general and literary texts work and how they are composed in different styles,
  4. • they are familiar with the implicit meaning of numerous colloquial expressions.
Skills
  1. • Relying on their rich and diverse vocabulary, they understand technical terms in specialised texts even if they may not have an expertise in the subject matter concerned,
  2. • they are able to understand and critically interpret nearly every version of the written language including abstract, structurally complex literary and non-literary texts,
  3. • they are able to understand and use slang and idiomatic expressions,
  4. • they are able to proficiently use connectors and cohesive devices,
  5. • they are able to talk pronouncing words correctly and with good intonation including about complex and delicate issues.
Attitude
  1. • Students are expected to improve their language, communication etc. competence,
  2. • to constantly check their performance and analyse their own work.
Independence and responsibility
  1. • They are expected to be responsible for the improvement of their language competence.

Teaching methodology

The course is designed to improve all the four skills in a balanced way including through numerous autonomous assignments particularly to improve reading comprehension and writing skills. In addition to autonomous learning, cooperative teaching methods are also used.

Materials supporting learning

  • A hallgatók szükségleteihez igazodó C1-es szintű anyagok (nyelvkönyv, írott anyagok, hanganyagok, videók).
  • Materials at level C1 reflecting relevant student needs (language textbooks, written, audio materials, videos).

A kurzus során folyamatos, fejlesztő értékelést végzünk a házi feladatok, az órai munka és a beadandó feladatok alapján. A félév végi értékelés alapja a feladatok folyamatos elvégzése, az órai munka, dolgozatok.
