Communication through TED talks - BMEGT63MATD

The course aims to develop the comprehensive and listening skills of B2 level students based on TED talks and students’ needs. Special focus is laid on skills related to work and learning.

1. The student knows the different types of English pronunciation and understands their differences.
2. The student is familiar with the characteristics of up-to-date English (collocations, proverbs, catchphrases).
3. The student is familiar with basic note-taking techniques.
4. The student is familiar with a number of typical presentation techniques.

1. The student is able to understand the different pronunciations of speakers of different nationalities.
2. The student is able to understand lectures on various topics related to their studies.
3. The student is able to have a deeper, more accurate understanding of cultural references.
4. The student is able to express an opinion on the contents of lectures.
5. The student is able to actively use vocabulary related to the topics covered by the course.

1. The student is prepared to tolerate various pronunciations of speakers of different nationalities.
2. The student shows an interest in TED lectures and sees their potential for language learning.

1. The student develops their note-taking techniques independently.
2. The student feels responsible for their own language learning.
3. The student has acquired basic language learning strategies that help him / her learn the language inde-pendently.

During the course, TED lectures are taken as a basis for language skills development taking into account students’ interests and needs and using a variety of teaching methods. As the course mainly focuses on the development of comprehensive and listening skills, students are given an opportunity to discuss various topics, with the help of cooperative techniques.

A kurzuson az idegennyelv-tanulás általános sajátosságaihoz igazodva a számonkérés folyamatszerűen történik, amelyben választható elemek is vannak.

A hallgató: • elkészít egy beadandót az órán vett valamelyik témával kapcsolatban (véleménykifejtés kb. 180-200 szó terjedelemben; a megadott lehetőségek közül választva) (20%), • megold egy hallott szöveg értését mérő feladatot az órán, már meghallgatott beszédhez kapcsolódóan (20%), • megold egy szókincsfeladatot az órákon gyakorolt anyaghoz kapcsolódóan (20%), • tart egy 2-3 perces kötetlen beszámolót/összefoglalást szabadon választott, számára érdekes témáról (20%), • aktívan részt vesz az órai munkában (20%).

TVSZ szerint. A folyamatszerű értékelés természetes része a pótlás és a javítás lehetősége. A különböző típusú feladatokat a félév során elosztva, választható és különböző időpontokban oldhatják meg a hallgatók. A hallgatók szorgalmi időszak végéig lehetőséget kapnak a feladatok pótlására és javítására.

A hallgatók érdeklődésének, szakmai irányának megfelelő TED előadásokat dolgozunk fel, ez határozza meg a témaköröket. A beszédek kiválasztásakor fontos alapelv, hogy a kurzus alapvető célja a munkához és tanuláshoz tartozó nyelvhasználati területek fejlesztése.
