Objectives
The course is aimed to help students reach CEFR’s A1.2 level in Hungarian language by the end of the term. After completing the course, the students will be able to communicate in familiar, simple and previously practiced situations that require basic and direct information exchange. They also acquire the most important socio-cultural knowledge necessary for everyday communication.
Academic results
Knowledge
- The students acquire an increasing amount of knowledge on the grammatical structure of the Hungarian language. They understand the concept of transitivity, the object types, the ways of expressing possession, the key functions of basic verbal prefixes, the correct past tense forms, postposition, the more advance system of the three directions phenomenon.
- They acquire more knowledge of everyday Hungarian culture.
Skills
- They are able to read and understand very short and simple texts. They find the relevant information in short, everyday texts (e.g. adverts, catalogues, timetables).
- They understand phrases used in everyday communication, as well as words and sentences about them-selves, their environment, home and studies, which can be expected at A.1.2-level. They understand short, clear and simple messages.
- They are able to ask and answer questions about their concrete everyday needs.
- They are able to communicate in writing in very simple situations.
Attitude
- They strive to become more open to communicating in the target language at their own level of language competence.
Independence and responsibility
- They acquire the basic strategies for learning a language and play an active role in their own learning pro-cess
Teaching methodology
Apart from improving comprehension and speaking skills, the course also focuses on developing writing skills and the comprehension of written texts. During the learning process students often work in pairs or groups, they are giv-en an opportunity to speak, to participate in situational exercises, while grammatical phenomena are used in realis-tic, lifelike texts.

General Rules
Completion requirements: active participation in classes (maximum absence rate: 30%), completion of assignments and / or progress tests issued during the semester.
Performance assessment methods
We use two tests during the term to measure the acquired knowledge and the ability to use it. The assessment also includes the students’ participation in the classes during the whole term.
