Programme: Post-graduate Specialist Training Programme in Business and Conference Interpreting

Objectives
Building on the competences acquired during semester 1, the subject focuses on consolidating liaison interpreting strategies (fast code switching, coordinating speaker turns, controlling non-verbal forms of expressions, stress management and compensation strategies) as well as an expansion of thematic vocabulary development. The subject prepares trainees for the final examination at the end of the semester where they are required to render a dialogue with questions and answers (e.g. interview, business negotia-tion, etc.) in the consecutive mode. The subject also puts heavy emphasis on the extension of background knowledge, exact and detailed rendition as well as preparation for fictitious and real-life interpreting assignments.
Academic results
Knowledge
- are familiar with basic and specific vocabulary of fields in which they are required to do assignments (social issues, he-althcare, environment, politics, the EU, economics, science, technology, law);
- are familiar with skills and aspects necessary for interpersonal interactions, are aware of observation criteria applied for the assessment of interpreting performance;
- are aware of the significance of non-verbal signs and expressions in communication;
- are aware of the basic principles of interpreting assessment including self and peer assessment
Skills
- are able to mediate in interpersonal interaction taking place in an official and/or professional context (interviews, official meetings, negotiations, etc.);
- are aware of their own non-verbal signs, expressions and are able to control them,
- are able to prepare for fictitious or real-life interpreting assignments (preparing glossaries, prepare for a topic, do adequate information-mining, etc.)
- are able to make sense of other people’s non-verbal signs;
- are able to manage and control their feelings and non-verbal expressions in stressful situations;
- are able to assess their own performance and those of their peers based on various observation criteria;
Attitude
- are open to continuous self-reflection, they can retrospectively assess their own interpreting and can analyse their inter-preting process
- in light of the expectation posed by the translation industry, they make every effort to do their job at a high quality
- accept and apply the written and unwritten rules of professional ethics.
Independence and responsibility
- prepare their home assignments in an autonomous and responsible manner, and upload these assignments onto the on-line eudcation platform until the given deadline.
Teaching methodology
Active participation in class work supplemented with autonomous tasks: Interviews with questions and answers, interpreting talks and negotiations, code-switching, coordinating speaker turns, memory exercises, preparing glossaries, interpreting from and into the foreign language on the basis of video or live interviews/discussions, assessing the video recordings, tasks to consol-idate interpreting strategies (see details above), continual self- and peer assessment.

A hallgatók A és B nyelven tartott előadásait valamint tolmácsolási teljesítményüket különböző módokon (egyéni, társas és csoportos értékelés, szóban és írásban egyaránt) és különböző szempontok alapján (tartalmi, forma, prezen-tációs, stb.) értékeljük. Az egyes fejlesztő értékelési módszerek előtérbe kerülnek.
