Objectives

The course is aimed to prepare students for advanced level international language exams. During the course the stu-dents improve their C1-level language competence in all skills, but the main purpose is to develop the strategies required for the exams. The course also helps students through feedback to decide whether they are ready for the exam.

Knowledge
  1. • The students are familiar with the typical topics and sections of the CAE, IELTS, TOEFL exams.
  2. • They are able to use the strategies required for the exams.
Skills
  1. • They are able to complete tasks which assess the comprehension of more complex, concrete or abstract texts they have read.
  2. • They are able to complete tasks which assess the comprehension of texts during the listening part of the giv-en language exam.
  3. • They are able to elaborate on their opinion, arguments and counter-arguments in the various exam sections built on the standard reading and writing topics at the chosen level of the language exams.
  4. • The students are able to communicate in detail, continuously and precisely in the language exam tasks based on the standard topics of the oral part of the exam: they are able to express their opinions, talk about a topic extensively and participate in conversations during the various tasks of the language exam.

  1. • The students strive to cooperate and complete the tasks in a precise manner.
Independence and responsibility
  1. They have the necessary strategies for developing their language competence independently and take respon-sibility for improving their language proficiency.

Teaching methodology

The course focuses on establishing the strategies required for the exams, therefore we complete a lot of practice tests during the lessons and as homework. The students receive feedback on their work, we use cooperation techniques, during which students are also able to assess each other.
