Objectives

This course is designed to enable students to understand the digital world of the 21st century, to become familiar with widely used web technologies, to benefit from digital devices and resources and to identify the potential threats of using digital devices and resources. It also aims to teach students how to have a critical approach to web technologies, in particular to digital devices and resources used in the translation industry (e.g. software, machine translation, search machines, speech recognition devices, platforms, translators’ forums etc.).

  1. • Students are familiar with the main web technologies;
  2. • they know the principles of web editing;
  3. • they know the devices, technologies, resources currently used in the translation industry.
Skills
  1. • They are able to analyse, decode and properly assess information received through digital channels,
  2. • they are able to properly use web sources in their translation work.
Attitude
  1. • They critically access information from digital sources, e.g. search for and organise terminology using a critical approach.
  2. • They have an open, analytical and synthesising way of thinking.
Independence and responsibility
  1. • Students are expected to autonomously control their own work and be responsible for their own learning processes.

Teaching methodology

Students predominantly work with learning materials through frontal methods (lectures) and interactive exercises (independent, pairwork and teamwork).
