Objectives

Based on the competences learned and improved in the previous semesters, this course is designed to synthesise and further develop the competences and skills acquired earlier. It most importantly aims to expand the specialised vocabulary related to specialised texts, to teach the structures of these texts and to enable the creation of similar products. Students are introduced to additional colloquialisms and idiomatic expressions and learn to be able to proficiently use these. It is designed to enable students to use their four core skills to express themselves correctly and in a polished way, both in writing and speech, to communicate their viewpoints and to defend those using the correct connectors and cohesive devices.

Academic results

Knowledge
  1. • Students understand the types and conventions of the composition of written texts and the typical vocabu-lary of each text type,
  2. • they understand technical terms even if they may not have an expertise in the subject matter concerned,
  3. • they understand how texts are composed in different styles.
Skills
  1. • Students are able to talk pronouncing words correctly and with good intonation about complex, general, professional or delicate issues,
  2. • they are able to identify the correct register to be used in a specific situation and to easily switch from one register to another,
  3. • they are able to effortlessly maintain a conversation even with native speakers,
  4. • they are familiar with a variety of colloquialisms and idiomatic expressions and are able to proficiently use these,
  5. • they are able to communicate various degrees of emotions and to express the personal importance of events and experiences,
  6. • they are able to produce clear, smoothly-flowing, well-structured speech showing controlled use of organi-sational patterns, connectors and cohesive device,
  7. • they are able to correctly use the techniques of argumentation.
Attitude
  1. • Students are expected to improve their language, communication etc. competence,
  2. • to practise constant self-reflection and analyse their own work.
Independence and responsibility
  1. • They are expected to be responsible for the improvement of their language competence.

Teaching methodology

The course is designed to improve all the four skills in a balanced way including through numerous autonomous assignments particularly to improve reading comprehension and writing skills. In addition to autonomous learning, cooperative teaching methods are also used.

  • A hallgatók szükségleteihez igazodó C1-es szintű anyagok (nyelvkönyv, írott anyagok, hanganyagok, videók).
  • Materials at level C1 reflecting relevant student needs (language textbooks, written, audio materials, videos).

A kurzus során folyamatos, fejlesztő értékelést végzünk a házi feladatok, az órai munka és a beadandó feladatok alapján. A félév végi értékelés alapja a feladatok folyamatos elvégzése, az órai munka, dolgozatok.
