Objectives

This course is designed to enable students to develop a conscious and reflected approach to the source texts to be translated. In this semester, students learn that they need to “assess” the text, the terminology and other challenges before they actually start translating it. It also aims to teach students that translators need to approach the texts with “humbleness”.

  1. • Students are familiar with the norms of the foreign language concerned;
  2. • they know their strengths and weaknesses in their native language
Skills
  1. • They are able to consciously reflect on the text and to translate it in a literal-interpretative manner;
  2. • they are able to identify the key terminology in the text;
  3. • they are able to identify registers;
  4. • they consider the aspects relevant to text construction in the translation process (e.g. author, reader, purpose of the text, means selected and used to deliver the message);
  5. • they are able to consciously use the various text processing strategies;
  6. • they meet the basic requirements of everyday language norms in the texts they produce;
Attitude
  1. • They are expected to deliver quality written products based on their active knowledge of language norms;
  2. • they are expected to practise constant self-reflection, analyse and evaluate their own written products.
Independence and responsibility
  1. • They are expected to be responsible for their own performance;
  2. • they autonomously complete their assignments.

Teaching methodology

Text analysis, text writing, translation in writing. Analysis of the texts written by the students, feedback in the form team/instructor/independent assessment.

Teljesítményértékelési módszerek A kurzus során jellemzően fejlesztő értékelési technikákat alkalmazunk, szummatív értékelésre csak a félév végén kerül sor. A hallgatók önértékelése folyamatos. Házi feladatok: sajtóképes/piacképes szöveg írása, közvetítés, szö-vegértelmezés, lexikai és helyesírási feladatok.
