Objectives

The purpose of the course is to acquaint students at the beginning of their studies with the basic concepts, methods, and main topics of sociology, with special emphasis on topics important for their future careers. Main topics discussed during the course 1. Sociological approach, modernization 2. Social science research 3. Socialization 4. Social interaction 5. Norms, rules, deviance 6. Mass and behavior 7. Lifestyle, culture and religion 8. Groups, organizations 9. State and society 10. Local governments 11. Globalization 12. Slums and ghettos 13. Gentrification, suburbanization 14. Demographic challenges and social transformation
