Objectives

The objective of the course is to expand trainees’ background knowledge, to become familiar with topical issues and be informed about basic topics such as environment, politics, the EU, economy, social issues, healthcare, education and law. Besides individual information-mining and the preparation of glossaries, trainees are required to collect information on different topics and discuss them in class. Not only will they become equipped with general knowledge but based on the news items, articles and studies they will be able to build an extensive thematic glossary.

Academic results

Knowledge
  1. are familiar with the basic issues and challenges of the particular topics and the topical actualities;
  2. have acquired a relatively large body of basic and specialist vocabulary;
  3. understand the basic process and interconnections of the given to topic or area.
Skills
  1. are able make an in-depth analysis of a given topic and prepare a presentation;
  2. are able to prepare, individually and in small groups, topical glossaries based on the topics systemati-cally analysed and processed.
Attitude
  1. are open to and interested in events around them;
  2. work towards extending their knowledge and relevant vocabulary;
  3. consciously prepare for their interpreting assignments.
Independence and responsibility
  1. take responsibility for their own performance, they prepare their presentation and compile the glossa-ries, and generally complete their tasks in an autonomous manner;
  2. can work in groups to fulfil the tasks assigned for them.

Teaching methodology

Active participation in class work and tasks to be done in an autonomous manner: each trainee presents a topic in the format of a presentation. They regularly read papers, follow the news in order to keep abreast of current events and pro-vide their peers with relevant and up-to-date information. At the end of the semester, they take an examination (in test format in the online education system) and will take an oral exam based on the topics provided by the teacher.

A számonkérés rendszeres, folyamatos, előre kiadott feladatok teljesítésével. A házi feladatok határidőre történő teljesítése (felkészülés előre megadott témából, glosszárium készítése, 1 alkalommal (kb. 30 perces) előadás tartása, rendszeres szóbeli beszámoló hazai és nemzetközi aktualitásokról).
