Objectives
The subject lays down the foundations for interpreting as a complex cognitive process. Trainees are familiarised with the basic modes and techniques used in interpreting and acquire some basic skills such as active listening and oral foreign language skills applied smoothly and consistently during the interpreting process. Trainees are also introduced some basic note-taking tech-niques but the focus in this semester is on the consecutive interpreting of a short speech without notes and with reliance on short-term memory.

Skills
- are able to sustain active listening
- are able to understand and analyse speeches delivered in the foreign language (at macrolevel, and key word level and the lev-el of logical analysis);
- can assess their own capacities required for the different phases of consecutive interpreting;
- are able to render the basic message of a short (2-3 min) speech from memory, without taking notes, and can perform short (3-4-minute) speeches applying basic note-taking strategies.
Attitude
- are open to and interested in topical issues (social, political, economic, cultural, etc.);
- work towards self-reflection in assessing their own interpreting performance.

- take responsibility for their own performance
- adequately prepare for class, carry out tasks autonomously and reflect on their achievement.
Teaching methodology
active involvement in class, preparing 3-4- minute mini-presentations in general topics, memory tasks, compiling glossaries, examination at the end of the semester.

Performance assessment methods
A hallgatók A és B nyelven tartott előadásait, valamint tolmácsolási teljesítményüket közösen értékeljük különböző módokon (egyéni tanári értékelés, társas és csoportos értékelés, szóban és írásban egyaránt). A félév során a házi fel-adatokat (hangfelvétel, jegyzetek, stb.) készítenek a megadott határidőre. A tantárgy oktatása során jellemzően fejlesz-tő értékelési technikákat alkalmazunk, a hallgatók önértékelése folyamatos.
