The debate: argumentation and persuasion in practice - BMEGT41V106

Aim of the course is to develop skills for successful participation in reasoning and discussive situations. The course creates a practical experience based on the theoretical knowledge of the prerequisites by simulating complex discussions, similar to Anglo-Saxon discussion courses. The course emphasizes methods of rational and persuasive reasoning, public speaking in front of a heterogeneous audience, development of rhetorical skills, and verbal and non-verbal abilities. A further aim of the course is to develop students' critical attitudes and their rational conflict management skills by processing a variety of discussion topics.

1. Knows the basic techniques of reasoning and persuasion, their theoretical and practical similarities and differences, and their methodological approaches.
2. Knows the importance of participating in debate in the context of science, education, society and media, the different levels of this relationship and their consequences.
3. Knows the broader system of her field, recognizes the relationships with related disciplines, uses the opportunities provided by the wider system and the contexts related to the system.
4. Possesses adequate and sufficient knowledge to orient herself in the various mechanisms of social decision-making.

1. Confidently uses the vocabulary and the basic scientific concepts of the profession, and the elements of the special vocabulary based on them.
2. Possesses the ability to gain a new perspective, she is able to approach science and its environment with an interdisciplinary approach.
3. In solving her professional tasks, she is able to independently analyze, evaluate, and synthesize conclusions and explanations.
4. She is able to apply a wide range of well-established techniques for the critical analysis and processing of information.
5. She is able to participate in the process of lifelong learning.
6. Identifies special professional problems with an interdisciplinary approach, explores and articulates the detailed theoretical and practical background needed to solve them.

A tanult elméletek és módszerek alkalmazásával tényeket és alapvető összefüggéseket tár fel, rendszerez és elemez, önálló következtetéseket, kritikai észrevételeket fogalmaz meg, döntés-előkészítő javaslatokat készít, döntéseket hoz rutin- és részben ismeretlen - hazai, illetve nemzetközi - környezetben is.

1. Accepts and consistently and plausibly represents the diversity of the perspectives of social sciences in the related narrower and wider environment.
2. Demonstrates and open mind to critical self-evaluation, to various forms of training, to the self-help forms of intellectual worldview. Endeavours for self-development in these areas.

A 2.2. pontban megfogalmazott tanulási eredmények értékelése: egy évközi írásbeli házi feladat, részvétel két órai vitában, valamint az aktív órai részvétel (70%-os jelenlét) alapján történik.

Részteljesítmény értékelés (1 házi feladat, 2 órai vita): a tantárgy és tudás, képesség típusú kompetenciaelemeinek komplex, írásos értékelési módja házi feladatok formájában. A házi feladat alapvetően a megszerzett ismeretek kritikai elemzését és értékelését helyezik a középpontba. Az értékelés alapjául szolgáló ismereteket és a rendelkezésre álló munkaidőt a tantárgy előadója határozza meg. A teljesítményértékelés része részévtel két órai vitán és az órai jelenlét (az órák 70%-án).

A két órai vitából egy a pótlási időszakban díjmentesen pótolható. Javítás esetén a korábbi és az új eredmény közül a pótláskor vagy javításkor elért eredmény kerül beszámításba.
