Objectives

The main purpose of the course is to improve the students’ verbal communication skills at C1 level, primarily by perfecting convincing presentation and reasoning techniques when using a foreign language in a personal and professional setting. To this end, we analyse topical TED talks and discuss relevant social and cultural issues.

  1. • The students are familiar with the characteristics of structured presentations.
  2. • Based on the debates and the materials used, the students learn about certain features specific to Germany.
Skills
  1. • They are able to understand the gist of a problem, as well as arguments for and against various solutions from written or oral materials.
  2. • They are able to hold convincing and motivational presentations.
  3. • They are familiar with and apply strategies that can be used successfully for persuasion.
  4. • They are able to formulate their opinions which may differ from those of others; they are able to argue their case in a constructive way.

  1. • The students are open to understanding the problems of German-speaking countries.
  2. • They strive to manage differences in opinions in a constructive way.

  1. The students take responsibility for improving their own language competence.

Teaching methodology

We use a lot of team work exercises, which provide ample opportunities for professional debates, problem solving and cooperation.

  • Aktuális célnyelvi anyagok: újságcikkek, videók, ezekre épülő feladatok. - Topical materials in the target language: newspaper articles, videos and tasks built on them.

General Rules

Teljesítési követelmény: órákon való aktív részvétel (megengedett hiányzás 30%), valamint a félév során kiadott feladatok és/vagy dolgozatok teljesítése.

Mivel a fő cél a szóbeli kommunikáció fejlesztése, ezért elsősorban az órán elvégzendő feladatok (vita, prezentáció) vagy beadandó szövegek.
