Objectives

The course is aimed to prepare students for intermediate (B2-level) B or C type language exams. During the course the students improve their language competence, but the main purpose is to develop the strategies required for the exams, especially on the elements of the written part of the exam. For a successful preparation, it is necessary to have a level of proficiency close to that of the exam.

Academic results

Knowledge
  1. • The students are familiar with the typical topics and sections of the relevant exams.
  2. • They are able to understand the instructions given for the various types of tasks.
  3. • They are able to use the strategies required for the exams.
  4. • They are familiar with the assessment criteria used for the various sections.
Skills
  1. • They are able to elaborate on their opinion, arguments and counter-arguments in the various exam sections built on the standard reading and writing topics of language exams.
  2. • When writing essays, they are able to actively apply the typical elements of the given written genre.
  3. • They are able to complete tasks which assess the comprehension of more complex, concrete texts they have read. They are able to understand and comprehend the text they have read in parts and as a whole. They are able to give relevant answers to various types of questions used to assess comprehension by using the infor-mation found in the text.
Attitude
  1. • The students strive to cooperate and complete the tasks in a precise manner.
Independence and responsibility
  1. • They have the necessary strategies for developing their language competence independently and take re-sponsibility for improving their language proficiency.

Teaching methodology

The course focuses on establishing the strategies required for the exams, therefore we complete a lot of practice tests during the lessons and as homework. We use a lot of cooperation techniques to improve writing skills, during which students are also able to assess each other.

Teljesítési követelmény: órákon való aktív részvétel (megengedett hiányzás 30%), valamint a félév során kiadott feladatok és/vagy dolgozatok teljesítése
