Objectives

This course is designed to enable students to improve their understanding of the structure and operation of the language mediation industry, to become familiar with the domestic and international market players, to identify and attend the major translation and interpretation events organised in the specific semester. It also aims to introduce students to relevant trade papers and publications of the domestic and international translation and interpretation industry. Students may use their visits to translation agencies and/or trade associations to develop business contacts and to identify the needs and expectations of their potential future employers.

Academic results

Knowledge
  1. • Students understand how the domestic and the international translation and interpretation industry works,
  2. • they are familiar with the key processes and interrelations of the language services market,
  3. • they are aware of the current issues in translation and interpretation,
  4. • they know the domestic and international advocacy groups and professional associations.
Skills
  1. • Students are able to discuss relevant translation and interpretation topics and express their related opinion,
  2. • they understand the relevant publications of domestic and international professional papers and are able to summarise those in Hungarian,
  3. • they are able to recognise and collect key information and messages from domestic and international pro-fessional events and subsequently organise those,
  4. • they are able to produce quality written accounts to present the key ideas of a trade event, conference or publication.
Attitude
  1. • They are expected to constantly improve their knowledge and professional competence,
  2. • they are open to and interested in domestic and international events, news and developments relating to translation and interpretation,
  3. • they are expected to be involved in the work of domestic advocacy groups and professional associations.
Independence and responsibility
  1. • Students are expected to autonomously draw up their reports and to be responsible for them,
  2. • they are expected to contribute to and make remarks in trade events in a competent manner.

Teaching methodology

The most important goal is to ensure that students are able to independently and efficiently collect and learn in-formation and produce texts. Teamwork and cooperation with fellow students play a key role both in and outside of contact lessons.

  • A hazai és nemzetközi érdekképviseleti szervezetek és szakmai egyesületek, továbbá a fordítóirodák internetes oldalai, konferencianaptárak, konferenciaanyagok.

A hallgatókkal közösen összeállítjuk az adott félévre vonatkozó eseménynaptárt, amely alapján kiválasztják, mely rendezvényen vesznek részt, milyen publikációit dolgoznak fel és miről készítenek beszámolót egyénileg vagy csoportosan. Ezen kívül a hallgatók fordítóirodai vagy egyesületi látogatáson vehetnek részt online vagy jelenléti formában.
