Objectives

This course is designed to provide an overview and systematic organisation of economic, technical, legal and EU-specific special areas in Hungarian, to teach key terms and interrelations, including in particular the unique lan-guage used in these areas. It also aims to enable students to use these basic skills to search for additional reliable sources relating to their specialised translation projects and terminology research.

Knowledge
  1. • Students are familiar with the key terminology of economic, technical, legal and EU-specific special areas in Hungarian.
  2. • Students know the most important persons, events, theories and phenomena relating to these areas.
  3. • They are familiar with authentic and reliable sources typically used in these areas.
Skills
  1. • Students are able to identify which special area(s) a key term, person, event, phenomenon or theory is related to.
  2. • They are able to divide these special areas into further subsystems and name them in Hungarian.
  3. • They are able to organise the key terms of a special area and see them in context.
Attitude
  1. • They are expected to constantly monitor changes in these areas, in particular the way these changes affect language use and translations.
Independence and responsibility
  1. • Students are expected to constantly and independently educate themselves in special areas they are less familiar with.

Teaching methodology

Students listen to Hungarian presentations relating to the various special areas. This course mainly relies on auton-omous study (independent processing of information presented) but learning is supported by test questions relating to the various special area blocks and specialised literature.
