Translation - BMEGT60S506

This course is designed to teach students the basic terminology of translation, the basic steps of the translation pro-cess, the basic translation strategies and transfer operations. Through the comparative analysis of source and target texts, students learn the various types of errors, improve their self-evaluation and revision skills and participate in translation projects carried out in pairs and teams requiring cooperation and work coordination. Based on the skills and techniques learned, students are able to deliver quality translations meeting the requirements of the translation market, both from Hungarian into a foreign language and from a foreign language into Hungarian.

1. • Students are familiar with the basic terminology and the general principles of translation;
2. • they know the various steps of the translation process;
3. • they are familiar with the system of translation transfer operations and are able to identify the various op-erations;
4. • they are aware of the potential translation errors, know the system of error categories and know the prin-ciples of revision;
5. • they have the required linguistic, cultural and pragmatical skills to translate source texts and are aware of the stylistic properties of the relevant text types;
6. • they are familiar with the process of translation projects, quality requirements of the translation market and know the different translation services.

1. • They try to constantly check their work, to analyse and assess their own translation and the translation process in a retrospective and error-focused manner;
2. • their general professional attitude reflects the soft skills indispensably required for translators (accuracy, flexibility, teamwork etc.).

Based on the course plan of the semester, students weekly receive translation, summarising, revision or terminology related assignments and additional exercises requiring research as well as readings and videos for independent home review. During the semester, students are expected to complete 6 to 7 translation projects independently, with a partner or in a team by the required deadline.

• szorgalmi időszakban végzett teljesítmény értékelések: 100

A kijelölt feladatok 90%-ának határidőre történő benyújtása.

A vizsgaérdemjegyet teljes egészében az évközi teljesítmény alapján állapítjuk meg, a hallgató az így megszerzett érdemjegyet a vizsgaidőszakban tett írásbeli teljesítményértékelésen módosíthatja. Ebben az esetben a vizsgaelemek részaránya a minősítésben: típus részarány szorgalmi időszakban végzett teljesítmény értékelések 40% vizsgaidőszakban végzett írásbeli teljesítményértékelés 60%
