Objectives

The aim of the course is to present the nature and dynamics of contemporary urban and environmental process-es from a Hungarian and international perspective through a series of case studies, introducing students to the sociological concepts, methods, and main issues related to the subject, with special emphasis on practice-oriented thinking and problem solving.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge
  1. the basic concepts and theories of urban sociology and environmental sociology;
  2. the background of the social and environmental processes;
  3. the relevant sociological topics and case studies;
  4. attempts to manage social and environmental problems.
Ability
  1. understand and process literature on the topic;
  2. to formulate a professional opinion;
  3. developing recommendations and action plans on sociological issues.
Attitude
  1. actively participates in lecture sessions;
  2. gain knowledge and information;
  3. approaches the topics in a practice-oriented way.
Autonomy and responsibility
  1. are open to accept reliable critical remarks;
  2. are open to formulate questions and critical remarks.

Methodology of teaching

Lectures and written communication. Students works performed independently and in group.

Assessment of the learning outcomes described under 2.2. is based on one written end-term test. The assessment includes the right solution of the lesson works.
