The course has two parts: theory and practice. The aim of the course is to introduce students into the theoreticalbackground of international politics and international political economy, to show them those powerful economic, political, social and cultural forces that have shaped the world until recent times. A particular attention will be paid to such topics, as chaos or order; war or peace; peacemaking and diplomacy; politics and nation state; the interrelation of politics, economics and society, capitalism models and the future of capitalism/market economy; development of the present world order and international institutions, like the UN, the Bretton Woods institutions and NATO; globalization and its dimensions; regionalism and regional integrations; development and future challenges of the EU; civil societyand NGOs; cultural and sport diplomacy.

Teaching method and grading: Lectures, in class student individual and group tasks, activity50%Theory/mid-term and final paper50% Practice/individual and group assignments (written assignments, oral presentations, group tasks and discussions),class attendance and participationAs for class attendance, according to academic regulations, students must attend min. 70% of the classes. However, after having missed more than 30% of the classes, student will be given “F” (fail) grade.

Writing the midterm exam test (25% of total, based on the lecture, e-learning compulsory reading materials; min. 50% of the scores for successful final grading is a necessity) and submitting the final paper (25 %) is compulsory. However, if writing the midterm test is not successful or in other exceptional cases (e.g. justified medical care) there is a possibility to retake. The final exam paper (topics discussed preliminary by the lecturer) should be submitted by the end of the term. In the practice part (50%), there will be individual and group tasks, presentations.
