Objectives

The course unit aims to introduce students to the fundamental environmental and natural resource-based problems that our contemporary society must face. Starting out from the economic basics, through a review of case studies to future-conscious decisions, students will gain an insight into environmental and natural resource economics.

Academic results

Knowledge
  1. Knows the basic context, problems and possible solutions for the management of non-renewable resources, the role of substitutes and the impact of changes in cost factors;
  2. Understands the need for recycling of materials, the specificities of recycling/reuse of some key types of materials and resources;
  3. Understands the intergenerational economic, social and environmental consequences of the production, storage and management of waste (in particular hazardous and nuclear waste).
Skills
  1. The student is capable of drawing up economic, social and environmental plans for the future, and is competent at assessing these;
  2. They are competent in recognising problems arising from pollution, and are capable of finding appropriate solutions.

  1. Cooperates with the lecturer and other students.
  2. Strives to understand complex systems.

General Rules

The learning objectives detailed in 2.2 will be assessed by means of a summative assessment (one Moodle test).

Performance assessment methods

Detailed description of performance evaluations during the study period: Summative assessment (Moodle test): a complex, written evaluation of the knowledge and ability-type competence elements of the subject in the form of a Moodle test. The part of the curriculum serving as the basis for the Moodle test as well as the timeframe of filling out the test will be determined by the subject instructor.

Retake and late completion

1) Pursuant to the current CoS, each summative assessment can be retaken, repeated or completed late. 2) The summative assessments can be retaken, repeated or completed late for the first time during the late completion period free of charge. In the event of a retake, the new result always overwrites the old one. 3) If the student is unable to obtain a grade other than 'Fail' even with the retake, repeat and late completion possibilities according to point 1), they may make a second attempt to successfully complete the course after paying the fee specified in the regulations.
