Objectives

The subject is designed to develop students who are studying or will be studying in the target language at a Hungarian or foreign university. The main aim of the subject is to develop the language skills that are needed for language use in higher education.

Academic results

Knowledge
  1. The students can distinguish between the characteristics of formal and everyday language use in writing and speaking.
  2. They have the linguistic knowledge (vocabulary and structure) needed to study in a foreign language.
  3. They are familiar with the basic notetaking techniques.
  4. They know how to read scientific texts effectively.
  5. They know how to structure a good argument.
  6. They know the principles to follow when preparing a study abroad application.
  7. They know that studying abroad has intercultural aspects as well.
Skills
  1. They thrive in the university environment of the target country, and are able to use the vocabulary related to university studies.
  2. They are able to understand and respond to official notifications and letters about their studies.
  3. They can have polite informative conversations with university staff.
  4. They are able to understand university lectures and take notes.
  5. They use reasoning techniques, can defend their own position and participate in discussions related to their studies.
  6. They have the ability to provide constructive criticism and feedback in situations related to their university studies.

Teaching methodology

We primarily use cooperation as a teaching method during the course. When working in pairs or in groups, during the continuous interaction, the students have plenty of opportunity to talk and discuss certain topics.

General Rules

Evaluation comprises of regular attendance, (30% of lessons can be skipped), active participation in lessons, and completing and submitting assignments and tests at a satisfactory level.

In line with the general characteristics of teaching foreign languages, assessment will be applied with a process approach, which also includes optional elements, such as assignments, communication exercises, presentations.
